Canoe Speed

Canoe Speed makes propulsive indie rock packed with hooks: infectious melodies paired with tight grooves and a touch of punk. Jay Shearer's distinctive songwriting is lyrically dense and melodically playful, with something to say for this troubled moment. Personal, poetic, and aware, even danceable (at least head-bob-able), these tunes reveal dark wit and an open heart, riding on the premium-grade rhythm section of Tom Herman and Paul Ovnik.

The band recently celebrated the release of their first album, the 14 tracks of Ape Vibrations in the Deep Space Station. Three old friends reunite after working together ages ago in the first version of Meet the Head (who went on to release two albums and an EP on Lost in America Music). Special guests on the album include Jon Williams, Naomi Ashley, and Matt Nalbach.

Cheryl Tomblin

Cheryl Lynn Tomblin, also known by her project moniker PIPES, is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the Chicagoland area. She has released two PIPES EPs, Allow Me the Pleasure(BobDog Studios) and Those Ramblings on the Wall (Wire Records), as well as one full-length solo album, Mockingbird (Sound Vault Studios).

The common thread between all her music: dark musings and contemplative desires layered on thick with her smoky vocals, pulling from influences such as PJ Harvey, Chris Cornell, John Lee Hooker, Cassandra Wilson, Alice in Chains, Morphine and Monique Ortiz.

Ron Lazzeretti

Chicago singer-songwriter Ron Lazzeretti writes simple songs of love and redemption, alternately dark, funny and buoyant. His first record, Battle of the Planets, mixed a distinct Americana sensibility with an unexpected touch of pop; his 2023 release, Fat Head, Sunday Paper, heads further down that path with a heavier emphasis on rock played live.

A local poster boy for late bloomers everywhere, Ron has played the hallowed halls of Fitzgerald's Nightclub in Berwyn for decades, where he now hosts a Songwriter Circle. He's also played priceless haunts including The Uncommon Ground, The Friendly, Outtaspace, The Lizard Lounge and The Golden Dagger.

Music aside, Ron is a veteran writer, independent filmmaker and commercial director. He wrote and produced Michael Keaton's directorial debut, The Merry Gentleman, which premiered at Sundance, and wrote and directed Something Better Somewhere Else, a film Roger Ebert called "a delightful film, and in some stretches a flawless one."
